Engineered Rhodobacter bacteria produces valencene through fermentation. Fed sugar and brewed in large tanks this unknown bacteria has been created through the process of synthetic biology to produce valencene- the aroma and flavouring of valencia oranges.

Guaranteed as ‘EU Natural’, the valencene produced by the bacteria is also further transformed by another modified bacteria to producing nootkatone- the aroma and flavour of grapefruit.
